Hi love, howya feelin'?
I hope you guys loved last weeks wellness gift guide post!
(If you missed it, make sure to check it out, you can find it here.)
THIS week, we are focusing on sending a little more love your way. <3
As much as I love this time of year, it can be the most difficult time of the year. Crazy busy schedules, saying yes to things we'd probably much rather say no to, family drama, the list goes on.
I thought let's talk about some ways to de-stress and chill this holiday season.
Here are ten ways that I plan to de-stress this winter break!
If you're having an extra hard day... breathe, you got this.
Meditation is something that I have incorporated into my lifestyle and I am so thankful I did. Meditation takes time and practice, but it's something so crucial to calm our busy minds.
If meditation is not your cup of tea, just take a moment to focus on your breathing.
Here's one of my fav breathing exercises:
- Take a long, slow breath in through your nose, first filling your lower lungs, then your upper lungs
- Hold your breath to the count of "three."
- Exhale slowly through pursed lips, while you relax the muscles in your face, jaw, shoulders, and stomach
TAKE THE DAY OFF
After a long winter day or a festive holiday party, step 1 (even if you are deliriously tired) is to remove that makeup and pamper your skin before bed. I like to keep some cleansing wipes in my night stand for those nights I seriously can't (or just really don't want to) make my way to the sink for a thorough cleanse.
Waking up the next morning will feel SO much better if you push yourself to take care of yourself, even just a little bit, the night before.
Lightly organize your space
Ugh. Cleaning. It's a love/hate relationship. Hate it when it's happening, love it when it's over. I feel so much better in the morning if I wake up and my place is put together and organized.
With all of the crazy chaos of the holidays, it's even more important to keep your space feeling like your little sanctuary. Just spending ten minutes to tidy up and put things away can instantly help you feel more calm and clear headed.
Set the mood
Light candles. Turn on fairy lights. My space is never without these two staples.
They make you feel instantly at home and more comfortable.
You gotta do what you gotta do to make your space feel warm and inviting.
Stretch baby, stretch
I love me a good yin yoga class. What is yin yoga you ask?
It's a stretch yoga class. Super simple & perfect for right before bed. If I can't make it to a class one night, I stretch at home on my yoga mat.
Stretching makes me feel so good and can be a super helpful when I am feeling a bit anxious too.
Take a bath
There is seriously nothing that I love more than throwing my hair up and off of my shoulders, and dipping into warm water.
Instant ways to make your bath even better:
- bubble bath (duh)
- a cozy book
- spa music (so relaxing)
Wear soft + cozy fabrics
The more fluff the better, I always say! Actually, I've never really said that before. I just wanted to say that now. lol
Speaking of fluffy things, they are a must.
A fluffy robe? Cozy socks? I know that it's super simple, but for me, when it comes to relaxation, it's all about the little things.
Surround your body with the most comfortable fabrics, that just make your skin feel like your getting a big hug.
Play some soft tunes
I usually play a record on my record player, but I also love a good spotify playlist.
Sometimes I like to have it running as soft background music and other times I have a full blown dance sesh in my tiny apartment.
(side note: my neighbor may or may not have caught me salsa-ing away once)
Def put on some tunes because music can be incredibly soothing and healing.
Allow your mind to get lost
Reading is always a good idea. Even if it's just for twenty minutes. It eases the mind + can help you sleep!
Pinterest is also my go to when I want my mind to wander, but feel inspired at the same time. I could sift through beautiful photos of travel, adventure, food, etc. all day!
Allow your mind to get lost & dream.
A good ol' cup of tea
My mom has been giving me camomile tea ever since I can remember. Anytime that I am feeling anxious or stressed, it's my go to, hands down. It just eases my mind.
Holding a cup of tea is just the most soothing feeling.
p.s. I really like my cup of tea with a little bit of honey, too.
Thank you for relaxing with me you guys.
Remember to take some time over this winter break to take a bath, have a dance sesh and of course, breathe. <3
