our trip to the redwoods

Alex and I set out on a lengthy (twelve hour) road trip up to Northern California over New Years. We set out on the 28th and drove for more than eight hours to our first destination; Vichy, California.

Vichy is two hours North of downtown San Francisco. There is a natural hot spring there, which is what we were in search of. We have some serious love for hot springs and try to find them wherever we go. There’s nothing like soaking in the earth’s mineral water that is naturally heated by mother nature.

These were not the hottest mineral baths we have been in; they were 91 degrees, which in the middle of winter doesn’t warm you up too much. We were freezing our butts off getting in and out and decided to just share one bath because, body warmth. I’d love to come back to Vichy Springs in the summertime.

My favorite was the champagne bath, which is the one you see in the photo below. The mineral water causes a natural bubbling sensation on your skin which feels really cool. The mineral water in that bath opens up your pores much larger than usual, which is nice when you plan to do some pampering to your skin after getting out.

After soaking all afternoon (and a little the following morning) we were ready for our remaining four hour drive up to Trinidad, California.

We found a cute little Airbnb near Patrick’s Point. I have always dreamt of living in a cottage/farmhouse environment. It’s my life dream to end up somewhere with goats, a donkey, some horses, you know, the usual. When we arrived, tears formed in my eyes because it was the closest I’ve ever felt to that dream.

We stayed in our beloved little cottage for 4 days and loved every moment of it. We hiked, we cooked, we fed apples to the farm animals, and we took lots of bubble baths.

An outdoor bath is something I never knew I needed in my future life. Alex and I utilized that thing every night. Bubbles, wine, and so many laughs. He did a photoshoot of me in the bath and, in a British accent, was saying, “be the bath, Carrie.” I was laughing so hard tears were coming out of my eyes.

The most must-do thing in the area is hiking within the Redwoods. It’s pure magic that can be seen and felt. Our favorite hikes were ‘Tall Trees’ and ‘Cathedral Tree.'

The beauty of the Redwoods will leave you speechless and in awe. I felt like I was in an enchanted fairytale. I highly recommend that you visit this area at some point in your life. It’s a beauty you’ll never forget.

Hope you enjoyed my little getaway post.

Now get outside, go explore, and tell me where you’re headed so I can live vicariously through you. :)

Lots of love and Happy New Year,
